In the latest issue of Writer's Digest, Stephen King said that he's thought of doing a sequel to "one of my early books, mostly because I've never done it before." So I'm thinking that this means The Shining. When I think of his early books, Carrie, 'Salem's Lot, and The Shining are what come to mind, his first three novels. If you've read Carrie or 'Salem's Lot, then you know that there really isn't much potential for a sequel with either of them. With The Shining, however, there is...lots of possibilities there. It could be a Danny & Wendy of now book. The Overlook has probably been rebuilt (like at the end of the miniseries), so maybe they go back there? And encounter Jack's ghost. Just an idea. Another reason why I think King might've meant The Shining is because he did his own film adaptation of it twenty years after the book came out. Usually when he works on the films himself (writing, producing), it's within a few years of the book's release. Think Desperation, book came out in '97, film 2006. If he still wanted to do a film after twenty years with this, then that must mean he feels pretty strongly about it still. One of his favorites, probably. So if he was willing to do a movie twenty years later, then maybe a sequel thirty-some later isn't out of the question. Here's hoping.

The Shining Wallpaper

Here's a wallpaper I made for The Shining. I think some of it can be read at the University of Maine library at Orono, where Stephen King went to college. Some of his unpublished work has been collected there, but you have to get permission to read it. I haven't read the said 100 pages yet, but I have read the short story "Before the Play," which was the prologue to the book and was cut. This was published as a short story in 1982, then again in 1997 when the miniseries came out.

Here it is:

http://www.4shared.com/file/35826413/b9aeecc7/Before_The_Play__TV_Guide_.html?cau2=403tNull
